A pile is often feared as the tumour of the anus. Actually, a pile is not tumourous and not dangerous. It is a simple enlarged / engorged blood vessel(s) of the anus. It is also called hemorrhoids in medical terminology. It is the dilatation (varicosity) of the haemorrhoidal plexus (veins of anus). It appears as bluish or purple colored swellings due to stagnated blood. Piles may cause symptoms like bleeding, itching, pain and lump feeling in the anus.

Lacunar strokes can be defined as strokes in which a small branch of a larger blood vessel causes the stroke. Because of the way blood vessels divide in the brain, lacunar strokes tend to occur in areas located away from the surface of the brain, where many of the smaller branches of large blood vessels are located.

Lacunar stroke occurs when one of the small arteries (diameter: 0.2 - 15mm) that provides blood to the brain’s deep structures is blocked and injures deeper structures underneath the cortex. It may be referred to as a Lacunar Infarct (LACI). A patient who presents with the clinical symptoms of a lacunar stroke, but who has not yet had diagnostic imaging performed may be described as suffering from Lacunar Stroke Syndrome (LACS).
